Gustafsen Lake and Ipperwash

In recent years, Canada's governments have been adopting a "get-tough" attitude with native stand-offs. In one particularly brutal incident at Ipperwash, a park in northern Ontario, an armed Ontario Provincial Police SWAT team attacked a group of peaceful, unarmed protesters, killing one and beating another into a coma.

The articles on this page attempt to give some background to these events, and highlight calls being made for inquiries into why our government is so quick to use excessive force against Natives.
